Baroda - The Sanskari Nagri

Baroda, situated on the bank of the River Vishwamitri has been known by different names in the earlier time; firstly called as Chandravati (named after its ruler Raja Chandan), then Viravati and then Vadpatra presently known by the name "Baroda or Vadodara". Now Baroda is included in the list of one of the most cosmopolitan cities. The Modern Baroda is a great and mixture memorial to its late ruler named Sayaji Rao Gaekwad III (1875-1939 AD). His dream was to make Baroda an educational, industrial and commercial centre and he ensured that his dream would come true.

The Barodian people likes to tell the visitors of Baroda that their city is a ‘Sanskari Nagari’, that is nothing but ‘cultured city’. All the visitors agree to this statement after visiting Baroda. Baroda city does indeed have rich cultural traditions and today Baroda people have quite a full and hectic cultural life throughout the year. Interesting places you should definitely visit  are The Aurbindo Ashram, Baroda Museum and Picture Gallery, Sardar Patel Planetarium, Surya Mandir, EME Temple, Lehripura Gate, Maqbara (Hajira), Maharaja Sayajirao University, Mahatma Gandhi Nagar Gruh, Sayajigunj Circle, Maharaja Fatehsinh Museum, Sayaji Sarovar,  Sursagar Lake etc..
