BHAVNAGAR : THE SANSKARI KENDRA

Founded in 1724 by Bhavsinhji Gohil, Bhavnagar is situated 198 km from Gandhinagar and is the fifth largest city of Gujarat. In Saurashtra region it is the second largest city and is known as cultural capital of Saurashtra. Bhavnagar is also known as Kathiawar and is a coastal city situated in the easternmost cost of the Saurashtra Region. It is one of the most royal city of Gujarat and has been a predominant city of commerce and trade. This Sanskari Kendra is well known for its cultural and literary achivements and honors It was a princely state before it was merged into the Indian Union in 1948.









Bhavnagar is an important trading port for the cotton goods manufactured in Gujarat. The flourishing maritime trade with Africa, Mozambique, Zanzibar, Singapore and the Persian Gulf resulted in the high rate of urbanization surplus wealth and cosmopolitan culture of the town. It is the city of education and culture. People here are simple and art loving.The reflection of the vibrant traditional culture of the city makes the place worth visiting. Narsinh Mehta, Ganga Sati, Jhaverchand Meghani, Kavi Kant, Govardhan Tripathi are few of the poets, writers and other artists from Bhavnagar who have contributed to the Gujarati literature and culture. Being a new city, Bhavnagar has got a few historical places of visit. Interesting places to visit in Bhavnagar are Gauri Shankar Lake, Victoria Park, Takhteshwar Temple, Mahuva, Gandhi Smriti, Barton Library, Malnath, Velavadar National Park, The Central Salt and Marine Research Institute etc..
